News Briefs

Make plans now for the 2005 Conclave to be held June 2-4 at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Georgia. If you’ve never been to Callaway, this is an experience the whole family will enjoy. The gardens are fabulous, the golf is world-class, and then there’s that lake which holds some of the most notorious bass and sunfish in all of North America. A two pound sunfish? Heck, that’s the little guys! We were also able to obtain a special room rate of $89 per night during the conclave, and it is good for single, double, triple or quadruple occupancy. The room price includes admission to the Gardens. Another plus to Callaway: we will be able to put all of the show in one area, along with the seminar rooms and casting. If the rooms book up, there are motels and cabins around Pine Mountain. Also RV campgrounds. The June date should ensure that all schools are out, and we can have a really great youth program

Fall fishing is winding down throughout the Southeast. Although it’s still relatively mild for early December, we’re already seeing some winter patterns setup. Reds are schooling up in the bays around Appalachicola, snook are migrating into canals around Fort Myers, and yellowfin tuna are ganging up at the mouth of the Mississippi River. The white bass are active in channels at West Point Lake, and around Santee-Cooper. If anyone has a fishing report, please post it in our forum so others can know what’s biting around the region. With bowl games coming up, many football-fans-slash-fly-fishers will be following their teams to Nashville, Atlanta, Orlando, Tampa, and New Orleans, hoping to get one day on the water before or after the big game.
